2018 is almost here and let me tell you, I am ready for a fresh year! Today I want to share a few things with you to hopefully inspire you fashion-wise and life-wise. First, a fun #ootd with my favorite trend: velvet! Second, a few goals for 2018.
I am OBSESSED with velvet. It feels luxurious to wear while also a bit of an edge. I don’t really know how to classify my style. I love to wear all different types of things, mixing old and new, affordable and expensive. This outfit is super affordable and easy to recreate, while versatile enough to wear year-round. For whatever reason (and I’m not really complaining about this), Missouri weather has been quite mild this winter. I shot these photos December 21st, when it was close to 70 degrees outside! I mean, currently there are remnants of snow on the ground as I this post, but… that’s Missouri for you!

One of my favorite ways to style my outfits is by mixing prints, textures and even colors that don’t necessarily “match” or go together. I feel like I’ve always been this way, especially as I’ve grown into my own person. I’m a little bit different when it comes to what I choose to wear and often I just wear what feels good to me. I can’t tell you how many times someone has said, “I would have never thought to put that together! You look so cute!” And I love that! I encourage all of you to choose pieces of clothing that make you happy and make your feel your best. It really doesn’t matter if it’s “on-trend.” If it breaks a few fashion rules, even better! Now don’t get me wrong, I love my fashion magazines & following celebrity stylists to see what they’re up to, but I try to put my own spin on what I’m wearing so it feels like ME!
This coming year my resolution is to have no resolutions. I want to have a different approach to achieving my goals this year because I always seem to fall short. These are lifestyle changes I’d like to instill and just overall goals to improve my efficiency and success.
Start each day with meditation and prayer.
Something that totally lacks in my life is quiet time to reflect. I didn’t realize how much this actually improves my productivity and overall mood until I started doing it, and then quit. I read an awesome post by Beth Sandland titled, Can We Please Stop Pretending to be Busy All the Time? and it’s about our generation being obsessed with being busy. This hit me like a brick wall because I do this! I do this so much! I get caught up in all of the things I need and want to do, and I love to
complain talk about it. It seems like it’s a prize and achievement to be busy, and let me tell you, it’s really not! It’s certainly a blessing to be busy with work, family and passion projects. But it’s just as important to take time to relax, reflect and recoup. I’m more productive when I can start my days with mediation and prayer, reflect on what I’d like to accomplish and set attainable goals for the day verses waking up and running straight to the coffee pot and computer.
Take my dogs for daily walks.
If you don’t know already, I have two sweet furbabies and I am OBSESSED with them. They’re almost always on my Instastories… pretty much every day because they’re so stinking cute and naughty. Earlier this year I lost my job (and it was the BIGGEST blessing) which put me at home full-time right as spring arrived. Spring (also Summer and Fall) in MO is seriously beautiful, so I started taking the pups for daily walks before we got the day started and it was one of my favorite times of the day. They got to run off a bit of energy, sniff their favorite spots and had something to look forward to. I still take the dogs for a walk almost everyday, but some days I’m busier and lose track of time. We have a beautiful neighborhood walking trail that loops right back around to our house, so it’s super convenient and easy to do.
Stay consistent with blogging.
This has truly been a dream come true! When I started my blog, I was terrified of what people would think or if people would even read it. I held off for a long time before I got the courage to launch to the public. And once I did, I kind of dropped the ball. I didn’t take it seriously because I was still scared. Scared of rejection, scared of the work involved, scared of having to be patient and wait for growth. After months of prayer for job opportunities, one day I heard my prayers answered clear as day, “pursue your blog and treat it like your job.” And I swear to you, I did. I told my husband what my plan was, and that I felt it in my bones this is what I’m supposed to do. Within WEEKS I saw results. Since then, I have grown so much in my skill, and my blog is just flourishing. 2018 will be even better and I’m so excited to see how we grow!
Be honest with myself and others.
I’m a people-pleaser. It’s just who I am to my core and I definitely don’t ever want someone to be inconvenienced by me or my opinions. I feel like there is a respectable way to be honest with those around you, and voice your opinion in a manner that is respectful to your opinion and theirs. I want to learn to say “no” and not feel guilty for it.
Whether it’s more leisure books or content that will help me grow online, I want to read more! Leave any recommendations for books in the comments 😁
2017 was a wild year for my family and me. We celebrated small health victories, huge career and life achievements, visited Denmark & Sweden, and will end the year on a positive note. We also experienced extreme grief with the loss of our first pregnancy this year and a minor set-back in my health journey. Through it all, though, I have learned to accept the things I cannot control and trust that God will continue to provide for my family and I.
Sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you all for your support and encouragement through the good and bad. I love sharing my life with you.
Cheers to a NEW year!
